Day 213-214 Ran 5 Miles!

Saturday:

I had intended to sleep in until 7 but my stupid stomach woke me up growling at 5:45. I laid in bed until 6 and then got up. Ate some oatmeal, then went to the grocery store and came home and changed to go for my planned 5 mile run. I was little anxious about it and kinda dilly dallied around for half an hour before I left. When I got to the track not a soul was there! I was so happy until I realized I left my mp3 player at home. I ALMOST went back home after it but gas is $3.89 a gallon so that would have been a waste. I just resolved to run without and I survived. I ran my first 2.5 miles on the track. While running on the track is kind of boring it's also nice because I don't have to worry about other factors: cars, dogs, people, I kinda just zone out a bit. At 2.5 miles I ran to my car, swigged some water and ate about four Gu chomps. Do I really need them? That's debatable. Tom Holland says on runs of an hour you should take something in at the half hour mark. Since I had been running for half an hour I knew I'd be running for at least an hour, but probably more. I wanted to make this milestone run happen, so I ate the chomps even though I felt like I didn't need them at the time.

I was off after the chomps running around town. I was feeling good until I ran DOWN a hill. I'm really having problems with downhills. My knees hate them. Strangely I don't mind uphills. Anyway, I had set not to pay attention to pace time and all that because frankly, I don't want to pay attention to that anymore. I'm more considered with distance since I don't plan on racing again anytime soon and right now I'm just running to improve my health. That being said, I wanted to keep my heart rate under 180 so that I didn't wear myself out and I managed to do so. The highest it got was 179. When I thought I'd hit around 4 miles I finally switched my Garmin over to the training screen and I was at 3.93. I watched that until 4 miles and then walked for 30 seconds. Honestly, I didn't want to run that last mile. But I knew if I didn't I'd be pissed at myself so I did it. I was so happy when I was done and I smiled the whole .36 mile walk back to my car, also glad I had ate the chomps.

I was sore on the outside of my right knee when I was done for the rest of the day. I also felt this way on my Tuesday run when I was done, sore on the outside of my left knee. But it only does it for the rest of the day so I'm THINKING that I'm having IT band pain. Nothing serious though, since it goes away. But kinda frustrating nonetheless and I think my downhill running is to blame.

I ate an egg sandwich with a small piece of sausage and a banana after my run. Also drank a small Gatorade. The feller and I had planned to watch a movie and he brought up pizza and cheese sticks. See where this is going? Three pieces of pizza and about four cheese sticks I downed. I'm not mad at myself about it per se, but I felt like I kinda compromised my 5 mile run by eating all that.

Sunday:

Rest day. Did dishes, cooked and baked. Made the feller chocolate chip cookies and had a hard time staying out of the dough. An unremarkable day but I was feeling antsy to do SOMETHING. I wanted to walk or ride my bike but I forced myself to sit. Not fun.
